What is Mercury Rising Triathlon?

Mercury Rising Triathlon ("MRT") is a triathlon team based in Victoria, BC. Head Coach Clint Lien has been involved in triathlon for over 35 years. Mercury Rising triathletes come from all walks of life, from first-timers to professional athletes.

Whether you've never done a triathlon before, or you're training for your 99th race, getting to the start line is the hardest part.

Our team has teenagers, octogenarians, professional athletes, and everything in between. What we have in common is that we love triathlon and we believe in supporting one another to achieve our individual goals. 

 

Where does MRT train?

Swim: All Sessions: Crystal Pool & Fitness Centre (2275 Quadra St.)

Indoor Bike (Oct-April):
Saturdays: Saanich Peninsula VIHA (2166 Mt Newton X Rd);
Mon/Wed: The Shed (5077 Lakeridge Place)

Outdoor Bike (April-September): Wednesdays: Meet at 6:30 PM at the base of the Observatory (5071 W Saanich Rd)
Saturdays: Meet at 9 AM at Lochside School;

Run: Tuesday Evenings from October to April at the UVIC track (Centennial Stadium)

        Tuesday Evenings from April to August at Beaver Lake Lower gravel parking lot.

        Thursday Evenings from October to April at the Base of Sea Pearl Rd

        Thursday Evenings from April to Week prior to Ironman Canada at the Base of the Observatory (5071 W Saanich Rd)

 

When does MRT train?

Swim: Monday-Friday 7:30am-8:45am; Sunday 3:10-4:30pm

Winter Bike (October-April): Monday and Wednesday: 5:50pm-7:00pm; Saturday 8:30am-11:30am

Summer Bike (April-September): Wednesday: 6:30pm-7:30pm; Saturday 9:00am-12:00

Run: Tuesday and Thursday: 6pm-7pm

 

What should I bring with me on my first day?

Swim: A swimsuit, towel, water, goggles and swim cap. If you have any of the following, they are helpful, but not mandatory: Fins (flippers), hand paddles, snorkel

Indoor Bike: A trainer, your bike, bike shoes, a towel, food, water and bike clothing. 

Outdoor Bike: Bike, Bike shoes, food, and bike clothing appropriate to the weather

Run: Run clothing, running shoes, water.

Do I Have To Do All Three Sports to Join?

No. Many of our team members only swim, or only bike or only run with us. That's totally fine. We all have different goals and we support one another. 

 

Can I train with MRT if I have a different coach?

Yes. Many of our team members are coached by other people, some in Victoria and others around the globe. 

 

Do you offer private coaching?

Absolutely. Private coaching is $250/a month and includes all programs and personalized, private one on one coaching. You can sign up HERE
